When I began the story there were more characters. Two characters I had created were a mother and her son. The mother is the head of an estate. Years ago she was injured during an attack. She lost her husband in the attack. Her son was friends with the Blacksmith and had dreams of becoming a superhero.

As the story developed, I realised I needed fewer characters. I took aspects of each and merged them together. I kept the age and injury of the mother. I kept the character design of son and his friendship with the Blacksmith. This has helped me keep the story focused on a few key characters.
